First, what it ‘VSIM’ technology … It originates from the ‘Virtual SIM’ an acronym that iQsim has started to promote around 2010 … Not sure if they were the first to do so. It seems! We’ll say so …

However, since then, all the main actors have been using it … I’ll go in a later post in a comparison among all the existing competitors in this field! Keep watching …
Anyway, the “Virtual SIM” appeared to be an elegant way to illustrate what the technology does. It ‘virtualize’ the SIM Card … This is easily understandable and this was the goal. Using a couple of word which speaks to anyone !
Meaning the SIM Card is not here, it is ‘virtual’ … But this is not exactly true. At least this is 90% true. I’ll explain this in another post.
But the truth also, is that this was not really new. But as long as you present this as ‘new’ and it look like it is … then … it is ! and it was !
But in reality, this originates from a patent which was filled in the late 90’s . This patent, which was never claimed or disputed (to my knowledge) was about connecting a SIM Card remotely onto a GSM modem.
A couple or german company started to develop and use this mechanism for two main applications at the beginning of 2000. These companies were mainly Vierling, Implementa and Sigos, with a few others. A couple of years later, in 2002, QuesCom started to implement its own technology.
At that time, there were two main applications. One was about providing testing solutions for mobile carrriers to enhance their revenues, and the other, a bit later, was to build GSM Gateways in order to decrease the same revenues … in favor of what was called the ‘ITSP’, the Internet Telephony Service Providers in the early 2000’s … But this is another story !
